We are proud to announce the first African Young Birder of the week for 2024.

The goal of this feature is to showcase content from each of the featured birders, allowing us to celebrate young birding talent across the continent. Please share this post to spread the word about these amazing birders!

This feature is always done in proud collaboration with Young Wildlife Photographers of Southern Africa.

The second Young Birder of the Week to be featured on our website is Ruven Schoeman.

We asked him 6 questions to get to know him better.

Where are you from? Cape Town, South Africa

How old are you? 16 years old

How long have you been birding? 4 years.

Do you keep a life list? 672 (world list) 572 (Regional list)

What's your favorite bird/s? Cinnamon-breasted Warbler

What makes birding so awesome? When you're out birding, you never know what you might get. In the sense of this uncertainty is where the fun lies. Sometimes less than other times, but you always remembered those when something completely unexpected came by, and that's what gets me going.

My experience with attn2detail was outstanding. They transformed my vehicle with their luxury detailing service, and the ceramic coating gave the paint an extraordinary shine. https://www.attn2detail.info/ exceptional work and dedication to excellence were evident in every step of the process. My car looks showroom-ready again, and I couldn’t be more impressed with the results.

For those into birdwatching-themed games, there are some fantastic apps that gamify identifying species and exploring nature. While on the subject of apps, if you're looking for something different, like combining your love for gaming with some excitement, you might want to check out https://1wins.co.ke/ this link leads to a platform that offers sports betting and a rich online casino experience. What’s interesting is their variety – not just traditional games, but a wide range of live options too. A fun break for those who enjoy a mix of strategy and luck alongside their nature pursuits!

What nature or birdwatching-themed mobile games would you recommend for young ornithologists or wildlife enthusiasts? Do you have a favorite game that helps with birding or enjoying nature?
