We have scoured the web to find the best birding events around South Africa. The Events Diary is a free service for Bird Clubs and conservation organizations in South Africa. If you would like to ensure that your events are listed, please send the details to info@thebirdinglife.com. Please make sure to send the events for the week by the preceding Friday to ensure their inclusion.
Please note, we do our best to ensure that information provided is correct. However, we do encourage you to get in touch with the contact person for the event to ensure details are correct.
This events diary is and will always be free, but if you find value in the work we do, we ask you to make a R10 donation to BirdLife South Africa using the link below. We are not in any way affiliated with BirdLife South Africa; however, we believe in the important work they do and encourage you to support them.

Event: Zaagkuilsdrift Road Birding
Date: Saturday, 30th March
Time: Meet at 06:30
Leader: JP (Koos) van der Merwe
Description: Join us for birding along the legendary Zaagkuilsdrift Road, which runs east-west from the town of Pienaarsrivier to the semi-rural village of Kgomo-Kgomo, tracking the course of the Pienaars River. In years of good rainfall, the river forms a 27km² ephemeral floodplain with birding comparable to the much better known Nyl Floodplain. This combination of rare tropical waterbirds together with excellent mature Acacia woodland arguably offers the richest birding locality in the region, and certainly one of the best birding spots in southern Africa! A diverse variety of raptors, cuckoos, bee-eaters, kingfishers, shrikes, warblers, and seedeaters are present in the summer months, while (given sufficient rainfall) this is the most reliable site in SA for the rare and elusive River Warbler in summer. Birding will take place along the road to Kgomo-Kgomo.
