African Young Birder of the Week - 12 January 2024

We are proud to announce our second African Young Birder of the week for 2024.

This feature aims to showcase content from each of the featured birders, allowing us to celebrate young birding talent across the continent. Please share this post to spread the word about these amazing birders!

This feature is always done in proud collaboration with Young Wildlife Photographers of Southern Africa.

This week's Young Birder of the Week is Callum Naidoo.

We asked him 6 questions to get to know him better.

Where are you from? Randburg, Gauteng, South Africa

How old are you? 15 years old

How long have you been birding? I’ve been actively birding for about a year, so I’m relatively new to it.

Do you keep a life list? I do keep a life list on the BirdLasser app.

What's your favorite bird/s? One of my favourite species to photograph and in general is definitely the Secretarybird.

What makes birding so awesome? Birding is amazing as for me it combines my passion for photography with the thrill of capturing images of diverse species. Birds provide a challenging yet rewarding opportunity to improve my skills of photography such as patience and unpredictability, as birds are present everywhere you go there are no boundaries to photograph them.
