INFORMATION FOR BIRDERS:

What makes Rooiberg Lodge unique in the birding world is that we boast two completely different vegetation types. The Fynbos environment has many LBJ`s as well as nectar-loving birds such as Cape Sugarbirds and sunbirds due to the Fynbos having an array of flowering plant species during the winter months. Majority of our 14000 hectare reserve is Succulent Karoo which is full of flowering succulents during the Autumn, Winter and Spring months. The "Groot Rivier" runs through the heart of our reserve which has water permanently year round where one can view an abundance of water birds such as plovers, fish eagles, cormorants, and duck species. At the lodge itself we have a beautiful pond where one can sit and observe the water birds up close, perfect for photography. There are many hiking options on the property where one will find the rarely seen African Paradise Flycatcher in its natural habitat as well as its nesting site.
