We did a quick birding trip to Peacevale which is not too far outside of Durban. When I left home I was still undecided as to where to go, but we decided to bird the area around a small rocky hill alongside the N3 near Peacevale.
We were rewarded soon after arriving with a Sentinal Rock Thrush on the rocky hillside. As we kept driving through the Acacia grassland, we added birds such as Streaky-headed Seedeater, Cape Sparrow, Southern Tchagra, Yellow-throated Bush Sparrow, African Firefinch, Long-billed Crombec, Greater Honeyguide, Brown-backed Honeybird, and Swee Waxbill.
We also managed to find the delight of many birders - a water treatment plant - which allowed us to add species such as African Crake, Common Moorhen, Black Crake, Hottentot Teal, Red-billed Teal, and African Snipe.
We managed to tally 82 species for the morning - including a full card submitted to SABAP using Birdlasser for Pentad 2945_3040.
