This past weekend we did an overnight trip to Cumberland Nature reserve. This has to be one of the best birding reserves in the area - including the road into the reserve (are you even a real birder if you don't bird on the way into a venue?) we managed to record 119 species.
Highlights on the way in included White-backed Duck, Gorgeous Bushshrike, Marsh Warbler, South African Shelduck and Little Sparrowhawk.
In the reserve highlights included Yellow-throated Willow Warbler, Palm-nut Vulture, Common Scimitarbill, Lazy Cisticola, Brown Snake Eagle, Striped Pipit, Narina Trogan, Swee Waxbill, Greater Honeyguide, and lots of Fiery-necked Nighjars.
This venue is definitely worth a weekend away for any birder!
